The install documentation for openmaint is appalling. I've just spent a stack of time by trial and error trying to get it to work.
For people like me who started with a vanilla ubuntu distro you'll need to:
apt-get install tomcat6 #not tomcat7
apt-get install tomcat6-extras
apt-get install postgresql
apt-get install postgresql-client-common
apt-get install postgis
apt-get install postgresql-9.3-postgis-2.1
apt-get install postgresql-9.3-postgis-2.1-scripts
apt-get install postgresql-9.3-postgis-scripts
# cd to the uncompress distrib folder
About Tomcat we confirm to you that we suggest Tomcat 7.
About the software required by CMDBuild and openMAINT, on the net are available many how-to to help install them.
Our most important job is to develop CMDBuild and openMAINT.
Since they are open source projects, everyone can contribute to improve the documentation and the installation procedures.

I have searched for many hours looking for a set of instructions that actually works. The instructions on your site are generalized steps rather than step-by-step instructions. The instructions I have found on the Internet have not worked--none of them. I have found many sites with instructions, as you have said. Each set of instructions is different and even contradictory. I work with a non-profit organization. We do not have money to spend on tech support. I was hoping to use this software, but I have no choice but to look for something else.

I have to agree that the instructions are terrible. Regardless of this being open source, you guys know it best. SO many people have expressed how difficult it is to find proper instructions and by the time you piece together a little bit here and there and so much trial and error, you end up possibly with a working machine but with a lot of trial issues lingering in the system..
I myself have NOT been able to get this working after reading countless amounts of forum entries and public attempts. I am a non-profit with no budget. We had a demo of your product that looked great, but how do we install it correctly?? I have installed many open source products and I have never come along one so convoluted as openMaint.

I have tried my best effort and ended up in the similar situation as others here and else where who wanted to give openMaint a trial evaluation for a possible adoption for real use. Alas, we failed to reach that level of assessment with our own effort. As you might have heard, at least to some extent, that even Open Source software, should have a decent amount of community support in order to build and grow as ecosystem of the product. Well, ...
