Filtering

Hello,

We have build a CMDB for our location ( one site, several buildings, servers etc.).  We have defined a superclass "Servers" which has classes "Hosting Servers", "Virtual Servers", "Standard Servers" and "Workstations".

But now i have to add another site to this CMDB.  So i added a field "LocationCode" to the superclass "Servers".

The problem now is that i have to specifiy the search filter each time i switch to another class below the superclass "Servers" to view only servers belonging to a specific location i'm working on at that time.

A simple solution would be to create a superclass "Servers" for each location, but since these classes should be identical and each change has to be done in each class.  Also creating reports would be a lot more work.

A nicer option would be a menu structure with menu entry "Servers" and submenu "Servers at location X" and then the 4 classes we have defined but filtered by "LocationCode".  Is there a way to create a static search filter that is menu-entry specific ????  So when i enter the "Servers at location X" menu entry, the LocationCode is set to "X" in a automatic search filter.

Perhaps there is also another solution possible without duplicating classes, please advice.

Hello,

within two or three weeks we will release

CMDBuild 2.1

In this new version it will be possible "create a static search filter that is menu-entry specific"

This option has been call "View"

You can define it by saving a search filter and you can insert this new object type in the menu

You can find some additional information in past issues of the CMDBuild newsletter
CMDBuild Team

This is what i was looking for, i will wait for the next release.
You also mentioned that there are some remarks in CMDBuild newsletters, is there a archive where we can find all the released newsletters ?  For the new release, will there be a updated set of documentation / manuals ?

All CMDBuild manuals are updated with each major version of the product (1.4, 1.5, 2.0, etc., not 2.0.1, 2.0.2, etc.)

The next version will be 2.1 and will then include the upgrade of the entire set of manuals
